June 6th was a day of celebration at MCESA! TJST received our first youth referral from ADJC. Director, Dottie Wodraska has been working on this initiative for over three years and you could see tears of joy in her eyes as the referral was handed over to TJST facilitator, Joe Valenzuela. We now have over 25 youth enrolled in the program and are receiving more each week. |

In July, Maricopa County Department of Public Health's Streets of Success program provided Teen Outreach Program training to three Alliance Partner School's staff members. A representative from Career Success, Compadre Academy, and Southwest Leadership Academy became certified facilitators for this effective, evidence based Teen Outreach Program (TOP). Implementing TOP on these school campuses will provide youth with positive community service learning opportunities, life skills training, healthy behaviors, and a sense of purpose. Research and observation have shown that participants in these programs have: -52% lower risk of school suspension -60% lower risk of course failure -53% lower risk of pregnancy -60% lower risk of school dropout If your campus is interested in having a TOP program on your campus please email angie.pogue@mcesa.maricopa.gov. MCESA has written a grant that mayopen this training up to more schools, and we will let you know if we receive additional grant funding.
