Update on Primary Election Tabulation
“I’m pleased to announce, as of this evening, our Maricopa County Elections Department has now processed and tabulated over 99% of the nearly 675,000 ballots cast in Tuesday’s Primary Election. Multiple factors made this milestone possible just a little over 24 hours following the close of polls, beginning with the tireless efforts of poll workers and elections staff who worked through the night. Voters themselves also played a role, as many chose to exercise a new option available this cycle that enables them to prove their identity and tabulate their early ballot in the Vote Center rather than dropping it off to be validated and counted post-election. This significantly reduced the number of early ballots requiring signature verification in the days after the election.
Remaining to be processed are fewer than 1,000 provisional ballots, as well as approximately 3,000 ballots that have an issue that requires ‘curing’ by the voter and must be resolved by Sunday, according to State law. Permanent and temporary Elections Department staff will continue working hard until every valid vote is properly processed and counted, and the Board of Supervisors offers its sincerest gratitude to these public servants for their diligence and resolve.”
