Heat Relief
The heat affects everyone, from homeless individuals to those struggling to afford an electric payment. There are resources for everyone’s situation, however. While we’re in the midst of harsh heat, please keep an eye on your neighbors, families and friends, and community members.
Heat Relief Network
The Heat Relief Network is a crucial resource for people who are forced to face the heat everyday due to homelessness or other unforeseen circumstances. Shelters like the ones hosted by Safe Spin provide not only heat relief, but resources like food and health services from partners.
Utility Assistance
While temperatures rise, so do utility costs. There are a few options for residents to help ease the financial burden.
- The Department of Economic Security (DES) offers a couple programs that can help with expenditures: The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Power AZ.
- You only need to submit one application for both programs. To learn more about these programs and to apply for utility assistance, visit the LIHEAP webpage.
- The Maricopa County Human Services Department also offers assistance to County residents. To check eligibility and apply, visit the County Utilities page.
The County is currently evaluating its long-term role in providing transfer station services, which mainly affects parts of rural Maricopa County where trash services are unavailable or limited. As part of this review, a range of options is being considered, including partnerships with other governmental agencies, collaboration with private service providers, adjustments to the current fee structure, and the potential closure or consolidation of facilities.
Our next stakeholder meeting is scheduled for August 13. Additional information and meeting details will be shared as they become available. For more information, please visit the EROP website.
Out & About
Royal Palm 4th of July Celebration & Parade
We did a whole lot for the 4th of July, and if you missed our special edition newsletter for America 250, I’d recommend checking out all the cool events that happened! I went out to the Royal Palm Parade and Celebration on Independence Day morning, and it was a wonderful time. Thank you to all the community members and local businesses for making this another successful celebration of America.
Alice Cooper Solid Rock
The Alice Cooper Teen Center offers a place for teens (ages 12-20) to go after school or during the summer to learn about the arts. This no-cost center is not all just about music, even though learning how to play instruments is a large emphasis, but it also gives teens a chance to dive into their artistic side and even dance. D3's Ben Flores toured the Phoenix facility off 32nd St. and Thunderbird. Learn more about how to get your teen involved.
East Sunnyslope Blockwatch
Thank you to Jeff Tisot and the East Sunnyslope Association for inviting me to their block watch meeting on June 30. It was a pleasure to speak with Phoenix Police Chief Giordano and the rest of the community.

Police Community Events
Our local police officers go above and beyond to ensure our communities stay safe. They also enjoy hearing from you. D3's Ben Flores had the opportunity to visit the Cactus Park Precinct’s Coffee with a Cop event as well as the Black Mountain Precinct’s quarterly community meeting. Thank you to the officers and community members for taking the time to come out and work together.
Anthem Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Townhall
I was happy to visit Anthem for an MCSO townhall. Thank you Sheriff Sheridan and MCSO staff for providing important updates to the community. Thank you to everyone who came out to ask their questions and provide support.
