I am encouraged by Judge Blaney’s decision to order mediation in the Heap v. Galvin matter. Mediation could begin as early as this week and offers a path to finally resolve the dispute over election responsibilities and move forward.
For nearly a year, I have advocated for direct conversations, mediation, and practical solutions rather than continued litigation. I have consistently believed that negotiated solutions are more durable than court-ordered outcomes, particularly when election administration requires ongoing cooperation between offices. This process gives both sides the opportunity to move beyond past disagreements and focus on what matters most: delivering secure, accurate, and efficient elections for Maricopa County voters.
Mediation also creates a forum to discuss whether any operational changes should be delayed until after the Primary Election. Providing stability, clarity, and continuity for election staff during an active election cycle should remain a top priority.
The public expects elected officials to solve problems, provide clear direction, and focus on results. I am hopeful this process leads to a timely resolution so that all parties can return their full attention to serving voters and ensuring confidence in our election system.
I appreciate Judge Blaney’s efforts to encourage a productive path forward and look forward to an outcome that benefits Maricopa County and the voters we serve.
