Apprenticeship Fair

During National Apprenticeship Week, Maricopa County Human Services Workforce Development hosted the Maricopa County Registered Apprenticeship Fair on Wednesday, April 29 at Goodyear Ballpark. With Arizona’s population and infrastructure expanding rapidly, the fair connected residents to real career pathways that support our local workforce needs through an “earn while you learn” model. Interest in this year’s event far exceeded expectations. More than 700 residents pre-registered, prompting organizers to move to a larger venue.
At the fair, attendees met directly with employers and apprenticeship partners, learned about training options, and connected with community resources. Programs highlighted opportunities in in-demand fields like electrician, sheet metal work, heavy equipment operation and mechanics, medical assisting, information technology, ironworker welding, and more. Maricopa County continues to invest in apprenticeships as a pathway to stable, well-paid careers. Since 2022, Workforce Development has supported over 2,400 apprentices with tuition assistance and supportive services such as tools, books, and transportation, helping residents take the next step toward long-term employment and economic mobility.

Maricopa County Air Quality Department announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is proposing to approve Maricopa County Rule 205, an approach designed to improve air quality while supporting business growth. If approved, Rule 205 would be added to Arizona’s State Implementation Plan, making it federally enforceable. Adopted in May 2025, the rule allows fleet owners to earn emission reduction credits by voluntarily upgrading or replacing higher-emitting on-road vehicles with cleaner technology, and those credits can help offset emissions from new or expanding industrial sources under Clean Air Act requirements. Supervisor Steve Gallardo emphasized the balance of health and economic growth, stating: “It’s so critical that we invest in the health and well-being of our community in ways that also allow job creators to feel supported. I look forward to more ideas like this, more innovations, that allow us to comply with the Clean Air Act.”

Board of Supervisors Extends Ban on New Government Regulations
Maricopa County’s Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution to extend the moratorium on new county government regulations through December 31, 2026. The moratorium prevents county departments from starting new ordinances, rules, or regulations unless there is an emergency and the Board approves action to prevent a significant threat to public health, peace, or safety. County leaders said the extension is intended to provide stability for businesses and encourage economic growth by limiting unnecessary compliance costs. Supervisor Steve Gallardo noted the cost-of-living impact on residents, saying: “I hear it from people all the time… They’re worried about housing, food, gas prices, everything costing more. The last thing they need is government making more rules that drive up costs and make it harder to make a living.”

Heat Safety

With summer approaching, we want to remind everyone to stay alert and prepared for extreme heat while visiting Maricopa County parks and trails. Heat can become dangerous quickly, so plan your route, hike during cooler hours, wear sun protection, and bring more water than you think you’ll need (turn back when you’ve used about half). Know the warning signs of heat-related illness, and call 9-1-1 immediately if you suspect heat stroke. To learn more, click the button below. |

Adopt A Pet
Meet Callie!
 "About Me" from ACC Website
"Hi! I'm Callie, a bundle of energy and affection, I love to play and my enthusiasm is contagious! I'm still learning not to pull on the leash and can be a bit mouthy when excited, so I'm learning to walk nicely on a leash and to be gentle when I play, but I'm eager to learn with some guidance. My playful spirit means I'd thrive in a home where I can get plenty of exercise and attention. Adopting me means endless fun and a loyal companion who will always be there to brighten your day. Let's make wonderful memories together!"
