Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) has confirmed an additional measles case in a Maricopa County resident not associated with previously confirmed cases in the county and with no known source of exposure, demonstrating local measles transmission in Maricopa County. Healthcare providers should continue to consider measles in the differential of individuals who present with fever and a rash.
MCDPH has identified one public location where people may have been exposed to measles as a result of this case.
Individuals who were at the following location at the listed date and time may have been exposed and should watch for symptoms for the 21 days following their exposure:
- Arizona Youth Sports basketball game in the gymnasium, 6915 E. Guadalupe Road, Mesa AZ 85212
- Saturday, April 11th from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
- People should watch for symptoms through Saturday, May 2nd, 2026.
MCDPH has launched a Measles Information website with a summary of the outbreak, current case counts, and a list of public exposures. Please monitor this site for updates on the evolving situation.
It is recommended that Maricopa County providers:
- Consider measles in the differential of unvaccinated individuals who present with fever and a rash.
- Provide early MMR vaccination to infants 6-11 months in alignment with CDC guidance for jurisdictions with a local measles outbreak.
- Minimize exposures of patients and staff utilizing CDC infection control guidance.
- Make sure that all patients and clinical staff are adequately vaccinated.
