Bark Rangers Visit Maricopa County Parks

Douglas the Bark Ranger and I visited Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area to learn about invasive plants and the Desert Defenders Program. Throughout the year, Maricopa County Parks hosts Desert Defender Invasive Species Removal Events to teach the public about common plant invaders and ways to get rid of them. In early March my new friend, Bark Ranger Rocko joined me at Maricopa Trailhead in Anthem to teach me how to keep our pets safe on the trail during rattlesnake season and all year round. Play with your pups, not the wildlife!

District Highlights

Village Center Neighborhood Collective Mural Unveiling

It was a real treat to join Phoenix Councilwoman Stark and Councilman Robinson for the mural unveiling with the Village Center Neighborhood Collective near Central and Ruth avenues in Sunnyslope. This was a huge undertaking with the City and County working with our partners and small businesses to beautify this little corner of our community. Special thanks to the condominium complex which owns the wall, and to Desert Forage Design and Build for the concept.

County Updates & Events

International Relations

Great to join distinguished guests from Japan on March 4th, who hosted a reception celebrating Arizona's growing economic partnership. A Memorandum of Understanding was executed between the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA), Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC), Arizona State University (ASU), and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). The ceremony marked the opening of Arizona’s new Trade and Investment Office in Japan. We welcomed a visiting Japanese business delegation led by Consul General Kosei Murota. Strong international partnerships continue to create opportunity for Arizona and Maricopa County.

Habitat for Humanity

I was so honored to join Phoenix City Councilwoman Kesha Hodge Washington to dedicate Alta Vista Ranch, a 25-unit affordable housing development built in partnership with the County, City of Phoenix, and Habitat for Humanity of Central Arizona. I enjoyed a personal tour of one of the homes from a homeowner and her beautiful daughter! Alta Vista Ranch will provide stable, safe, and secure homes for these families, whose "sweat equity" helped build these homes.

I joined Steve Goldstein on Arizona Horizon to talk about ongoing discussions between the Board of Supervisors and the County Recorder, including budget priorities, constituent concerns, and ensuring effective election administration.

Heat Relief Efforts

The Maricopa County Public Health Department recently announced their 2026 Heat Response Plan, and none too soon! The plan builds on the success of prior years, which show heat-related deaths declined. The County and our many partners are working closely together across the region to protect those most at risk, provide respite and relief options for our families and residents, and to educate the public. Honor Run for Phoenix Police Foundation

Friends and colleagues gathered at the new Phoenix Police Headquarters for the 6^th Annual Honor Run/Walk for the Phoenix Police Foundation. The event "honors the brave, equips the ready and supports the fallen." It holds a special place in my heart and I was so proud to participate.
