The lawsuit against the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) began nearly 15 years ago following allegations of racial profiling. The court determined that reforms were necessary to protect constitutional rights and placed MCSO under a federal monitor.
Since that time, leadership at MCSO has changed, policies have been rewritten, and systems of accountability have been built from the ground up.
Now is the time to recognize the undeniable success of MCSO’s reform efforts and begin transitioning away from prolonged federal oversight, so that both the department and Maricopa County residents can fully benefit from that progress.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office remains one of the finest departments in the nation. After nearly 15 years of progress, we’re approaching the finish line.
A few final steps remain, and we are hopeful the court will soon release us from the orders so we can fully focus on investing in the men and women who serve our community.
 We were down at the State Capitol advocating for our residents and the issues that matter most.

Spent time at the Maricopa County Elections Center alongside both the Elections Department team and the Recorder’s Office staff as the final ballots from the Tempe municipal election were received and processed.
It was encouraging to see the recently implemented chain-of-custody scanning and tracking system now in operation. This added layer of real-time visibility is an important step toward strengthening ballot accountability and improving transparency in the process.
Thank you to the dedicated professionals in both offices who continue working to ensure elections are conducted with accuracy, efficiency, and public confidence.
Congratulations as well to the candidates advancing to a runoff, and to those who secured victory in the Tempe City Council race. We will keep pushing forward on thoughtful improvements that enhance both performance and trust.
