Vice Chair Lesko's Testimony on Federal Monitoring of the Sheriff's Office
It was an honor to testify in front of the U.S. House Judiciary Subcommittee on the burdensome, costly federal oversight of the Sheriff's Office. It's time for the oversight to end!

Working with Recorder Heap for the Benefit of our Voters. Watch my statement here:
Chair Kate Brophy-McGee and I sent a letter seeking clarification on plans for early in-person voting and coordination efforts for upcoming elections. We are reaffirming our support for maintaining a robust early in-person voting program! To hear more, click on the play button above.
LATEST on Elections, Working with Recorder Heap:
-
State law divides elections duties between the Elections Dept., under the jurisdiction of the Board of Supervisors, and the Recorder’s Office.
- The Election’s Dept. is in charge of Election-Day voting and tabulation of ballots.
- The Recorder’s Office is in charge of voter registration, maintaining the voter rolls, issuing early ballots and verifying the signatures on the ballot envelopes.
- Recorder Heap sued the Board of Supervisors to operate early in-person voting sites.
-
Response: The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to give it to him and offered to help him with selecting sites, plus recruiting and training poll workers.
- Background: Historically, the Elections Dept., which is under the Board’s jurisdiction, ran early-in person voting sites, because most of those sites also operate as Election-Day voting sites, which are ran by the Elections Department per state law. So, it was easier for one office to run both, since the same machines and many of the same poll workers are used for both.
-
Recorder Heap sued the Board of Supervisors to have his own IT system, instead of using the county-wide IT system.
-
Response: The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to give Recorder Heap his own IT system, dividing the IT system so that the Recorder’s Office and Election’s Dept. both have their own IT systems.
- Background: Prior to 2024, the Recorder’s office had administrative control over the election-related IT system. In 2023, the previous recorder, Mr. Richer, threatened to cut off IT access to the Elections Dept, which also uses the system for their work. So, the previous Board of Supervisors voted to move the elections-related IT under the county-wide IT system. Under that system, both the Recorder’s Office and the Elections Dept. have full access to the database, but software changes are performed by the county-wide IT Dept.
- Currently, the Elections Dept. and the Recorder’s Office staff are having meetings to coordinate the 2026 election.

West Valley Mayors' and Managers' Meeting in Youngtown
It’s always a pleasure to attend the Mayors’ and Managers’ meetings and hear firsthand about the important work happening across our West Valley cities. Thank you Mayor Michael LeVault for hosting this month’s meeting in Youngtown!
ABC Sand and Gravel Tour
I recently had the opportunity to tour the ABC Sand and Gravel facility and learn more about their operations. It was informative to see firsthand how their business functions and to observe the machinery and heavy equipment in action. I appreciate the team taking the time to showcase their work and the role they play in supporting our local economy and infrastructure.
Hassayampa River Preserve Tour

I recently had the pleasure of touring the Hassayampa River Preserve, a remarkable desert oasis where one of Arizona’s few undammed rivers flows above ground year-round. Walking the shaded trails around Palm Lake and through mesquite and cottonwood forests was a wonderful reminder of why preserving natural spaces like Hassayampa matters for wildlife, for residents, and for future generations. This is a must see park. Click on the button below to watch a video of my tour.
Community Meetings
It's always rewarding attending the many community meetings held throughout my district and engaging directly with residents who care deeply about what happens in their neighborhoods. I always appreciate the thoughtful input, questions, and ideas shared during these conversations. Staying connected and hearing firsthand from constituents is essential to making informed decisions that reflect our community’s values and priorities.
Team Lesko
Jim Bull of Team Lesko recently attended the groundbreaking for the Wickenburg Art Museum and the grand opening ceremony for Ironwood Homes. It is always encouraging to see new businesses investing in the West Valley, and the new art museum will be a wonderful addition to the Town of Wickenburg, enhancing its cultural and community offerings.
