Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) confirmed an additional measles case in a Maricopa County resident associated with a previously confirmed case. MCDPH is working to identify and notify anyone who may have been exposed to this additional case. Healthcare providers should be aware of this exposure and should consider measles in the differential of individuals who present with fever and a rash.
An overview of the response with actions healthcare providers can do to help protect our community can be found at Measles Outbreak Information for Healthcare Providers.
MCDPH has launched a Measles Information for Healthcare Provider website with quick resources on reporting and testing guidance and links to current measles surveillance alerts.
It is recommended that Maricopa County providers:
- Consider measles in the differential of unvaccinated individuals who present with fever and a rash.
- Provide early MMR vaccination to infants 6-11 months in alignment with CDC guidance for jurisdictions with a local measles outbreak.
- Minimize exposures of patients and staff utilizing CDC infection control guidance.
- Make sure that all patients and clinical staff are adequately vaccinated.
