I repeatedly raised the alarm beginning in January 2025, including formally in writing (below) in April: The Board should return full 2023 SSA duties back to the Recorder as a baseline.
For over a year I have been fighting for this and have warned several times that if we didn’t, we would end up exactly where we are today. And now we’re here.
The frustration people are feeling is understandable, it’s the same frustration I have felt for over a year.
The BOS SSA subcommittee stayed firmly committed to a lame-duck SSA that Recorder Heap was never going to accept. That made today inevitable. A notable exception was returning most of his IT, but this still isn’t complete after months.
None of this had to happen. It could have been fixed with an open public forum and open discussion with the Recorder.
The good news: There is a way out of this, and there is a clear path forward. We need to stop with the lawsuits and unprofessional tweets and attacks and return the duties back to the Recorder immediately.
From there, we unwind the stranglehold every BOS Chair has used to keep discussions locked behind closed doors and put sunshine on the entire process in everything we do.
Transparency = Trust
I will keep fighting for that forever!
Background: In April of 2025 Supervisor Mark Stewart sent a formal letter to then Chair Thomas Galvin pushing for a swift resolution on the SSA. (See Below)
