Statement on Today's Vote To Require Recorder's Sworn Public Testimony
“Justin Heap has been lying to the public and refusing to answer basic, job-related questions from the Board of Supervisors for more than one year. He has been unreliable. He has been unprofessional. He has been untruthful. He has been unaccountable.
That ends today.
Using the authority granted by ARS § 11-253, the Board voted unanimously to require Recorder Heap to provide a written report and sworn, public testimony about critical issues involving his office, including allegations of voter disenfranchisement that have been made by his own employees. This testimony will happen, transparently, for every voter in Maricopa County to see, on February 18.
Mr. Heap has given us no choice.
The Board cannot responsibly set a budget, make policy decisions, or oversee county operations, including an active election in Tempe right now, without complete and truthful information from Mr. Heap.”
