Supervisor Thomas Galvin calls on Governor Hobbs to Support His “95:1” Election Reform at the Legislature
"Voters have been clear in what they want: faster election results. Once again, I’m advocating for my “95:1 Plan” to ensure that 95% of all votes cast are tabulated by the end of Election Night. The current system, that asks too much of election workers and volunteers, is unsustainable.
This plan calls for three main reforms:
- All early mail ballots must be delivered or placed in a drop box by the Friday before Election Day.
- Allow for in-person voting on the Saturday and Monday prior to Election Day—making early voting truly early.
- Require government buildings to be available to host polling sites.
The entire nation is waiting for Arizona to pass election reforms with common sense. This is a reputational issue for the state. Most importantly, Arizona voters want these changes.
Faster election results will increase voter confidence and limit the opportunity for misinformation. These changes ensure accountability in our elections, something that I believe should always be a nonpartisan issue. The legislature has already given positive signs. Governor Katie Hobbs should do what voters clearly and understandably are calling for: non-partisan, no-nonsense, pro-voter election reform. Voters deserve nothing less.”
