Maricopa County kicked off the holiday season with its Annual Tree Lighting. I joined Chairman Galvin to count down the lighting of the tree and share warm holiday wishes, along with a special thank-you to all Maricopa County employees for their hard work throughout the year.

Royal Palm G.A.I.N. Event & Fall Festival
The Royal Palm Neighborhood held another successful G.A.I.N. (Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods) event and Fall Festival in November at Royal Palm Park in Phoenix. Councilwoman Deb Stark and Police Chief Matt Giordano were among several community leaders who joined the festivities. What a great turnout!

Scouting America - Flag Retirement
Last month, on Veterans Day, I had the honor of joining Boy Scouts of America Troop 329 as they ceremonially retired U.S. flags collected from constituents across the Valley. This meaningful tribute was carried out with great care and dignity for these national symbols. Special thanks to Roger Ottaway for leading Scouts of all ages in a Scout Salute and speaking about our civic duty to respectfully retire worn flags that have served as powerful symbols of freedom.

GCU Campus Tour
I had the opportunity to visit Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, where I learned more about GCU CityServe’s outreach efforts supporting individuals and families in need throughout the local community. I also toured the university’s Real Time Operations Center, which partners with the Phoenix Police Department to help reduce crime along the 27th Avenue corridor.

I enjoyed visiting with the American Council of Engineering Companies of Arizona at their December meeting to share Maricopa County priorities and upcoming infrastructure initiatives with the County's engineering partners. |
Holiday Community Events
December 13th was a day full of Holiday events from Moon Valley Market to Melrose and lots of hotspots in between. Does District 3 know how to celebrate the Holidays or what?!

At the annual Passing of the Gavel at the County Supervisors Association, we welcomed Alton Joe Shepherd as the 2026 President and I was unanimously approved to serve as the Third Vice President. Thank you to Lynne Pancrazi for her service as CSA President in 2025. |

Air Quality Updates
When you 'Burn Cleaner, Burn Better', you’re making a healthy decision to improve the air we breathe. Best of all, wood burning alternatives are acceptable to use on No Burn Days, and still provide an inviting, warm fire glow while reducing harmful smoke pollution.

Animal Care & Control Updates
In Maricopa County, many outdoor Community Cats—from friendly neighborhood roamers to unsocialized feral cats—live among us. Because cats aren’t subject to the same licensing or leash laws as dogs, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) cannot pick up stray or feral cats or take action against those who feed them. Many residents help manage local cat colonies by providing food, water, vaccinations, and spay/neuter support, while others thrive on their own.
