Coffee with a Cop - Desert Horizon Precinct
On October 8 our District 3 Team had the opportunity to meet local Police Officers, Councilwoman Debra Stark and local residents at Cultivate Coffee on Dunlap. What a great turnout and discussion regarding the real time crime center and upcoming events like the Turkey Drive. Special thanks to Commander Brewer and his team for getting the community together. We look forward to more of these gatherings in the future.

On Saturday, October 25, the community gathered to celebrate Hansen Mortuary’s 75 years of serving Greater Phoenix families with dignity and compassion. B.L.I.A Tree Planting
Most recently, I had the honor of joining City of Phoenix Vice Mayor Ann O'Brien and Council Woman Debra Stark in a Tree Planting Ceremony at North Mountain Park in Phoenix. The tree was sponsored by the Buddha's Light International Association (B.L.I.A.). I was so happy to reconnect with City of Phoenix Sister Cities representative Lin Ling Lee, with whom I worked at the Legislature. The weather was beautiful and the event was wonderful.

Tom Manos Award for Outstanding Public Service
Congratulations to Darla Barfield from Correctional Health Services for winning the 2025 Tom Manos Award for Outstanding Service to Maricopa County. Darla has also demonstrated years of dedication and outstanding customer service to our community -helping the homeless and serving the elderly. A special thanks to our finalists — Gina Brockdorff, Phil VanKley, London Lacy and Beverly Jansen— for their hard work and commitment.
Environmental Services
REMINDER: The Maricopa County Environmental Services Department (MCESD) Vector Control Program helps protect public health by reducing the risk of mosquito-borne diseases. It’s important to know that this is not a general pest control service — our work focuses specifically on preventing mosquitoes that can spread disease, not on controlling nuisance insects that don’t carry illness. Please visit the Maricopa County link to learn what you can do to FIGHT THE BITE: https://www.maricopa.gov/5811/Fight-the-Bite
If you observe increased mosquito activity or breeding, call MCESD at (602) 506-6616. Staff investigates each complaint in the order received – trapping, testing and treating – to determine the presence of mosquitos carrying deadly diseases.

Those who complete the Challenge are entered into a grand-prize drawing for an annual park pass ($85 value) and a $25 Nature Center retail voucher. For more information, please click below.
Also, you are invited to lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails on Monday, November 17, 2025, in celebration of National Take a Hike Day. The $7 per vehicle day-use park entry fee will be waived at all regional parks that day.

Congratulations Environmental Services - 2025 NACo Award
The Cave Creek Landfill, once an active municipal landfill, is now closed and functions as a transfer station where residents can drop off waste for disposal or recycling.
A groundwater treatment system was installed as part of this work. When construction wrapped up, the Environmental Services Department (ESD) needed a reliable water source for dust control at the site. Instead of buying water from the City of Phoenix, Risk Management Department (RMD) and ESD partnered to reuse treated water from the new system.
ESD uses about 14,000 gallons of water each year for dust suppression, while the treatment system processes over 440 gallons per minute to remove contaminants before re-injecting the water into the aquifer half a mile away. By installing access points for filling water trucks, the County now uses this treated water for dust control at no additional cost, saving money and conserving a valuable resource.
