With warm temperatures and recent rain, you may have noticed more mosquitoes buzzing around your home and neighborhood. The majority of mosquitoes that emerge after rain are daytime biting ‘flood water mosquitoes’, which are annoying but fortunately, do not carry disease.
Let's do our part to help keep the community safe by draining any standing irrigation or rainwater that can collect around your house: • Dispose of any tires. Tires can breed thousands of mosquitoes. • Drill holes in the bottom of recycling containers. • Empty/turn over bottles, barrels, buckets, garbage can lids, etc. • Clear roof gutters of debris. • Clean pet water dishes regularly. • Check and empty children’s toys. • Change the water in bird baths at least once a week. • Turn over canoes and other boats. • Remove water collecting on pool covers. • Empty water collected in tarps around the yard or on wood.
What MCESD’s Vector Control Program Does The Maricopa County Environmental Services Department (MCESD) Vector Control Program helps protect public health by reducing the risk of mosquito-borne diseases. It’s important to know that this is not a general pest control service — our work focuses specifically on preventing mosquitoes that can spread disease, not on controlling nuisance insects that don’t carry illness.
County residents may contact MCESD at (602) 506-6616 to report increased mosquito activity or breeding. When mosquito activity increases, MCESD gets many complaints. Staff investigates each complaint in the order received. During these times, you can help by submitting one complaint per concern.
