Statement about Recorder Justin Heap
"Justin Heap is lying about me, and going forward, he better keep my name out of his lying mouth.
So today, I am calling on Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes to investigate the Maricopa County Recorder for public corruption.
I was contacted by a local journalist yesterday to comment on texts she obtained between Heap and two of my colleagues on the Board, Supervisors Debbie Lesko and Mark Stewart. In the texts, Heap stated that he made some sort of deal with me to vote for his preferred Shared Services Agreement (SSA), writing 'don't ask me the kind of backchanneling and arm twisting I had to do to get the democrat on the Board, but he will vote for the SSA.'
Let me be abundantly clear: Justin Heap is lying. I met Heap once in January and haven't talked to him since. Yet his texts hint at something nefarious; they imply that he has special access to me and that my vote is somehow for sale. I resent this characterization and am asking the Arizona Attorney’s General Office to get to the bottom of this outrageously false claim.
In addition, I understand that Recorder Heap also told a public gathering that I supported removing the Chairman of the Board from his position. Another lie. I work well with Chairman Galvin and am pleased with his leadership.
Since his election, Justin Heap has taken actions that have confused voters and damaged relationships. This must end. Justin Heap should stop the performative theater and just do his job."
