Confusing Letters from Recorder’s Office – What Voters Need to Know and Do
ALERT: If you received a letter from Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap saying you’ll be placed on the inactive voter list—you're not alone. 83,000 voters were sent the wrong letter.
Following that error, the Recorder’s Office mailed a second letter to the same group of voters. This new letter has also been the subject of some confusion as well, because it tells voters they must provide proof of citizenship to maintain their right to vote in state and local elections.
My office has heard from many concerned voters who aren’t sure what to do next.
First, I would encourage you to visit a new webpage set up by the Recorder to address the issue: Important Information for Maricopa County Voters: Updates on Recent Mailings
If you have additional questions, contact the Recorder’s Office at 602-506-3535 or voterinfo@maricopa.gov.
Voter registration and mail ballots fall under the Recorder’s Office, while in-person voting and ballot counting are handled by the Elections Department under the Board of Supervisors.
I care deeply about your right to vote and want to do my part to share accurate information.
Thank you for reaching out to my office.
 Supervisor Kate Brophy McGee
