I hope everyone enjoyed the first June 1 rain in over a century earlier this week!

May was another busy month at the County, my team and I spent much of our time out in the district meeting with residents, local businesses, and leaders. Meanwhile, my colleagues and I focused on:

Launching the New Parental Choice Pilot Program at the Queen Creek Library
Breaking ground for the New, State-of-the-Art Tabulation and Election Center
Tentatively approving the FY2026 Budget
Beginning the first major Zoning Ordinance Overhaul in decades

NEW! State-of-the-Art Tabulations and Election Center in Maricopa County coming summer of 2027. As the county grows, we will continue to invest in solutions that prioritize customer service and voter integrity. This marks an exciting new chapter of efficiency and transparency. I will continue to work with the Recorder to ensure his needs are met while being mindful of taxpayer dollars.

ASU ISTB12 Building

Had a great time touring the future of innovation at ASU's Polytechnic campus!

The ISTB12 building—soon to be home to the School of Manufacturing Systems and Networks—will play a key role in expanding student opportunities and driving economic growth across Arizona.

Huge thanks to Warde Nichols and Dean Binil Starly for the insightful tour. Excited to return for the grand opening!

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Annual Memorial Tribute

The Sheriff's Department held a powerful memorial tribute ceremony honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

As I serve on the Board, my top priority remains clear: to do everything in my power to ensure the men and women of Maricopa County Sheriff's Department come home safe every single day.

Tempe Salvation Army Grand Opening

Mesa Chamber Teen Suicide Prevention Kick-Off Social

The Mesa Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with the Ross Farnsworth - East Valley YMCA to raise awareness and create programming to prevent teen suicide.

As part of this effort, the Ross Farnsworth YMCA is offering 25 FREE memberships to teens in the East Valley — helping youth stay active, connected, and supported.

I’m proud to support this initiative and stay committed to building a healthier, more connected community.

Gilbert Chamber President's Circle Luncheon

I had the honor of joining Mayor Scott Anderson and local business leaders at the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce President's Circle Luncheon.

Small businesses are the lifeblood of our community—which is why Maricopa County is proud to champion them through our Small and Local Business Advocacy Program. This initiative is designed to expand opportunities and increase the number of county contracts awarded to small, local businesses right here in Maricopa County.

Gilbert Trilogy Neighborhood Meeting

Loved spending time with the folks from the Trilogy at Power Ranch neighborhood meeting! We joined in song to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA."

After I shared an update on what we're working on at the County -- including the FY2026 tentative budget, groundbreaking on a new election center, our commitment to public safety, plus more!

Chandler Chamber Community Awards

Congratulation to all the winners from the Chandler Chamber Community Awards. Chandler's energy and community spirit were on full display -- from local leaders, businesses, students, friends and family.

Hats off to the Chandler Chamber of Commerce for hosting such a fantastic event. I’m already looking forward to next year.

County Initiatives + Updates

Maricopa County Zoning Ordinance Overhaul Begins

Maricopa County is initiating the first major update of the Maricopa County Zoning Ordinance (MCZO) in decades.
The MCZO is the primary regulatory document for development projects in the County, establishing zoning districts with allowed uses and development standards to regulate uses.
The goal of the update is to make the ordinance easier to read, understand, and utilize, and address housing and regulatory reforms in alignment with community needs.
Community members are invited to participate in an upcoming stakeholder meeting on Thursday, June 5 from 3-5pm in the Board of Supervisors Auditorium at 205 W Jefferson St, Phoenix, AZ 85003 or online through Go To Webinar.
A second stakeholder meeting will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, with venue and time details forthcoming.
