Adobe Dam/Desert Hills Area Drainage Master Plan
Maricopa County Is Taking a Closer Look at Flood Risks in Your Area
Flood Control has updated the Adobe Dam/Desert Hills Area Drainage Master Plan.
This region has a long history of flooding. In recent decades, storms have caused property damage, road closures, and erosion, particularly in fast-developing areas where drainage infrastructure has not kept pace with growth. The original study, completed in 2004, helped identify key flood-prone areas, but development and changing rainfall patterns have created new challenges.
This update incorporates 15 additional years of storm data, community development, and advances in modeling and mapping technology to better understand current and future flood risks.
The purpose of the study is to recommend solutions to reduce flooding impacts, such as detention basins, storm drain improvements and natural wash preservation. These recommendations can be used by local jurisdictions to reduce flooding risks in the area.
We encourage residents and property owners within the Adobe Dam, Desert Hills, and Apache Wash areas to review the study findings and proposed alternatives and to provide input by Friday, May 23rd.
Community feedback plays a vital role in shaping future planning and project priorities. Learn more about the study and give your feedback on alternatives at https://apps.fcd.maricopa.gov/fcdprojects/Details/111
