Maricopa County Offers Life-Changing Legal Help to Veterans

Last month, many of our County departments showed up at the Arizona StandDown to offer services to veterans in need. Here are some stats about some of the lifechanging legal assistance that we offered.
- 1500 veterans attended the StandDown.
- Over 700 received some form of legal help.
- The Justice Court team heard 30 cases.
- Waived more than $27,000 in fines and fees.
- Quashed more than a dozen warrants.

Hiking Safety Tips
- Map out your plan before you go.
- Let someone know you are going.
- Hike in the early morning or evening.
- Consider your pets' hiking abilities, especially in the heat.
- Hydrate before and during your hike.
- Wear lightweight clothing and sunblock.
- Charge your cell phone and bring it with you.
- Check the weather before you go.
Workforce Development Program Earns National Award Recognition
Maricopa County’s Workforce Development program, Workforce 2 You, which delivers accelerated job training to rural communities, recently received national recognition at the 2025 National Association of Workforce Boards Annual Forum and was honored with the Excellence in Partnership & Collaboration Award.
“Economic security starts with access to opportunity,” said Thomas Galvin, Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, District 2. “When we remove barriers and bring workforce training opportunities directly to residents in rural communities, we drive economic development and support families. This national award confirms what we already knew — Maricopa County’s commitment to rural workforce development is innovative and making a real impact.”

Maricopa County's Workforce Development Division, along with the City of Surprise, are hosting a Registered Apprenticeship and Pre-Apprenticeship Fair on April 30 from 1:30 – 4 p.m. to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week! Originally held in Nov., National Apprenticeship Week has been moved to April to showcase and promote high-quality, in-demand career opportunities.
