Statement on Passing of Congressman Raúl Grijalva
"I am saddened to hear about the passing of my dear friend and mentor, Arizona Democratic Representative Raúl Grijalva. Congressman Grijalva and I shared a deep commitment to serving the people of Arizona.
He was a public servant for almost 50 years and was the longest-serving member of Arizona's Congressional delegation. He began his career as a Tucson community organizer before serving on the board of Tucson Unified School District. Later, he was elected to the Pima County Board of Supervisors.
He will be remembered for his advocacy for environmental justice and civil and women's rights. He served as Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee during both President Trump and Former President Biden's presidencies.
My heart goes out to his family, friends, and the people of Southern Arizona who will no doubt miss his caring spirit and activism."
