After much anticipation, the Gilbert Road Bridge has reopened! This vital connection is part of Maricopa County’s goal to build infrastructure to ensure we continue to support our fast-paced economic growth. By adding an additional two lanes on the new bridge, the County is ensuring that Gilbert Road won't be at risk of flooding during monsoons.

Affordable Housing Complex Opens in Buckeye
 Maricopa County invested $2 million in American Rescue Plan funds to help build an affordable housing complex in Buckeye. Solana Villas features 200 units and several amenities like a swimming pool and fitness center. Residents must earn at or below 60% of the area median income. Since the pandemic, Maricopa County has invested in 37 affordable housing projects that add or preserve nearly 4,000 units.

District 5 Supervisor Honored for 10 Years of Public Service
District 5 Supervisor Steve Gallardo was honored at a public formal meeting by Chairman Thomas Galvin for his 10 years of service as a county supervisor. Previously, Supervisor Gallardo served at the Arizona State Legislature and before that, he spent many years working at Maricopa County Elections.

Chandler Innovation Fair
Maricopa County Environmental Services and Air Quality Departments were at the Annual Chandler Innovation Fair teaching students about air quality and stormwater pollution prevention. District 1 Supervisor Mark Stewart stopped by to support community members and county employees at the fair. The Chandler Innovation Fair showcases the businesses, artists, students, and innovators in the community as Chandler participates in the statewide Arizona SciTech Festival. This free event offers unique opportunities for attendees to explore the discoveries of science engineered in their own backyard and taught in Chandler Unified schools.

It was started when President Jimmy Carter was in office as a week-long celebration and expanded to a month-long celebration during Ronald Reagan’s presidency. |
Winter Reading Wraps Up
Our Winter Reading Program has wrapped up and participation was off the charts! The goal is to read 500 minutes total, over the two-month program. If participants track their reading minutes at winter.mcldaz.org, they are eligible to win drawing prizes along the way. More than 2,000 residents participated, reading a total of 2.4 million minutes! Participants also completed 1,926 reading challenges, attended many winter-reading themed events, and joined in on MCLD’s first Winter Reading Community Book Club. Throughout the program, 78 winners earned library-themed prizes for reading 60+ minutes per week, and 10 lucky winners received a day pass to a County Park!

Adopt or Foster a Dog from Animal Care
In January, Animal Care and Control took in an average of 48 dogs every day between our two shelters. We need residents to partner with us to get all these dogs adopted in loving homes. The Engineering Division Manager collaborates with Directors and other Division Managers in the Flood Control District with minimal oversight. The Engineering Division Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the administrative, technical, and professional staff, as well as overseeing the division's activities. Additionally, this position is tasked with achieving the division's tactical and strategic goals.
