Thank you for your continued dedication to the Maricopa County Medical Reserve Corps! We’re excited to share several upcoming opportunities for you to enhance your skills and support our community. In the coming weeks, we have trainings, exercises, volunteer, and field surveillance activities planned that will allow you to make a meaningful impact while gaining valuable experience.
Whether you're looking to build new skills, support our community, or connect with fellow volunteers, there’s something for everyone. Check out the details below, and sign up to participate!
The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Fire and Police Departments are hosting a full-scale active shooter emergency exercise, and we need volunteers to act as victims and participants! This event will take place on Saturday, February 1st, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Salt River Materials Group - Dobson Plant in Scottsdale, AZ. Volunteers should wear clothing that can be stained or cut during rescue scenarios or moulage application, as moulage (makeup to simulate injuries) will be used to enhance the realism of the exercise. The event will be held indoors, and all volunteers will be provided with a continental breakfast and a boxed lunch. Your participation is essential to the success of this exercise, helping first responders refine their skills and readiness. Join us for this unique and impactful experience!
We are seeking volunteers to join the Epidemiological Field Surveillance Team at the Waste Management Open, assisting First Responder Field Teams in medical tents. Volunteers will play a crucial role in collecting anonymous, syndrome-based reports of injury and illness from First Aid Stations using a structured questionnaire. Shifts are full-day commitments with no exceptions, and a virtual training session will be held by invitation prior to the event to ensure all volunteers are prepared. This is a unique opportunity to support public health efforts while gaining valuable experience in field epidemiology.
The shift is from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. 2 volunteers are needed each day beginning Wednesday, February 5th through Sunday, February 9th. Please click the link below to sign up.
Volunteers are needed to train to assist our MCDPH call center in the event of a large-scale event such as a mass casualty incident. In a mass casualty incident (MCI) our call center may become overwhelmed with calls seeking information regarding family/victims for approximately 72 hours after such an event. We hope to train our MRC team to be able to assist if such an incident were to occur in Maricopa County to support our staff.
If you are interested in being part of this team, please join us on Tuesday, January 14th at 10:00 am. This training is approximately 2 hours with hands on practice and training.
Previous call center support staff appreciated. Must have skills to work telephones and internet surveys and forms.
We invite you to participate in an engaging Tabletop Exercise (TTX) on Thursday, January 16th, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at our office building at Central and Indian School.
A tabletop exercise is a collaborative, discussion-based activity where participants explore their roles and responses during an emergency. This exercise provides a valuable opportunity to enhance preparedness, identify potential challenges, and improve coordination—all in a supportive and low-pressure environment.
For this session, we’ll focus on earthquake response and practice key aspects of the MCMRC mission, including:
- Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Call Center operations
- Red Cross shelter support
- Behavioral health response strategies
We are seeking 40 volunteers to contribute to this important training event. Your participation will help us strengthen our capabilities to assist our community when it needs us most.
Don’t miss this chance to make a difference and sharpen your emergency response skills!
MCMRC will support MAG and City of Phoenix by participating in the Annual Point in Time Homeless Count for the 4th year in a row on Tuesday, January 28th at 6:00 am.
The Point-in-Time (PIT) Homeless Count is a vital effort conducted annually to assess the number of individuals experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County at a specific point in time. This initiative is part of a nationwide effort to better understand and address homelessness across the country. As part of the count, volunteers will also conduct brief surveys to identify the needs of those experiencing homelessness in our community.
What to Expect:
- Volunteers will work in small groups, visiting designated locations.
-
Safety is a top priority and all necessary precautions will be taken.
- A virtual training session will be provided prior to the event, and details will be shared with all registered participants.
Your participation is critical to this important initiative. If you’d like to join us in making a difference, click the button below to sign up today!
Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help.
This is a 6-hour learning session with a 2-hour pre-study remote before in-class learning. We will send you the pre-study approximately one week prior to the class. The training will be at our offices at Central and Indian School at 8:30 on Tuesday, February 4th. Please click the box below to sign up.
100 volunteer actors are needed for the 2025 Reception and Care (RCC) Exercise in March. Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management will be conducting this annual exercise to test our RCC plan in the event of an evacuation of the Palo Verde Generating Plant. Volunteers will act as evacuees to process through the RCC.
The exercise will take place on Thursday, March 20th, 2025 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at Youngker High School in Buckeye (Broadway & Apache Rd). Lunch will be provided at the completion of the exercise. If you would like to participate in this important annual exercise, please click the orange box below.
We have a few spots left in our next Basic Life Support (BLS) class. This is designed for medical professionals and will fulfill the requirement for medical licensure renewal.
Join us in our training room at Indian School and Central on Tuesday, March 18th from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm. The class is limited to 16 volunteers.
If you have not had a chance to watch our orientation video, please do so at your earliest convenience. It is 15 minutes long and covers policies and procedures for MCDPH MRC volunteers. You can access the video on You Tube by clicking the orange box below. We ask that all active volunteers watch the orientation to familiarize yourself with the latest information. If you have any questions or concerns after watching the video, please reach out to us at MRCVolunteer@maricopa.gov.
You can pick up these items from our offices at Indian School and Central Monday through Friday between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. The parking directions can be found here. Once you exit the parking garage, enter the tallest building and take the elevator to the 8th floor. Follow the signs to the CARES Team and let the person who greets you know you are there to pick up a volunteer shirt. Please be sure to bring in your parking ticket so we can validate it for you. If the door to the CARES Team is locked, please knock. Reach out to Cindy with any questions.
