STATEMENT ON MARICOPA COUNTY 2024 GENERAL ELECTION CANVASS
Today, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors canvassed the 2024 General Election. It was a historic election in multiple ways: we had the second highest voter turnout percentage (80.34%) since 1980; we had the most in-person, early voters ever; and we counted the most ballot pages ever (4.1 Million+), shattering the prior record set in 2006 (2.9 Million ballot pages). I could not be prouder of how our Elections team and the community rose up to meet the challenge of administering one of the largest and most complex elections in Maricopa County’s history.
In particular, I want to thank our Elections Director, Scott Jarrett, Assistant County Manager Zach Schira, and the rest of our hard-working Elections team and the 4,300+ temporary staff who invested long hours over the last year preparing for and administering this election. The planning and logistical preparation that goes into securing 246 Vote Centers and then accurately tabulating 4.1 million ballot pages should not be underappreciated. Your community thanks you.
I also want to thank the Maricopa County voters for participating in this historic election. 2,078,460 of you made your voice heard through your ballot during this election. The key processes of voting for our leaders and the peaceful transfer of power have been the foundation of our Union since its founding. Your participation ensures that this legacy and tradition continues.
