TODAY'S KEY MESSAGE
Ballot Tabulation for the 2024 Primary Election Recount in Congressional District 3
|
|
|
Ballots are inserted into tabulation equipment, and when necessary, go through electronic adjudication. Per statute, all equipment was logic and accuracy tested for the recount on Tuesday, Aug. 13 under the observation of the political parties.
Tabulation took place Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and possibly Sunday. Results must be provided to the Judge under seal by Tuesday, Aug. 20 and will be read aloud in open court.
A recount must be performed following a general, primary, special, or recall election if the margin of votes, based on the official canvass, between the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes for a particular office, or the votes cast for and against a ballot measure, are equal to 1/2 of 1% or less of the total number of votes cast for the top two candidates or the ballot measure in question. A.R.S. § 16-661(A).
Just 42 votes separated the top two candidates in the CD3 contest. For full results from the July 30 Primary, visit Results.Maricopa.Vote.

NEWS BITES
Signs of Heat Illness
Summer is winding down but temperatures are still in the triple-digits, so be sure to look out for the signs of heat-related illness.
How Weather Stations Help Prevent Flooding
Our 41 weather stations are just a small part of our ALERT system. More than 400 ALERT stations across Maricopa County and the five surrounding counties measure rainfall, streamflow, and other weather information. We use the data from those stations to track flooding. Our weather stations help us track atmosphere conditions, wind direction, humidity, dew point, and much more so we can better estimate where rain will fall and send alerts out faster when flooding does occur.
The National Weather Service has had weather monitoring stations at key points in the valley, like Sky Harbor Airport and Falcon Field, since the 1980s, but there were large gaps in the coverage, and the County began to fill in the gap. The County has placed stations all around the county at varying elevations (up to 7000ft) to give a more detailed picture of surface weather conditions.
