2024 NACo Conference
In mid-July, I had the opportunity to attend the 2024 NACo Annual Conference & Exposition in Florida, which strengthens America’s counties and serves county elected officials and employees. At the conference, Maricopa County was recognized for its efficiency and exceptional customer service.
In fact, Maricopa County was awarded 75 National Achievement Awards for designing and implementing programs that have made a measurable, positive impact on the community over the past year. Our Human Services and Public Health Departments won the most awards for their hard work, coming in at 20 and 15 awards, respectively.
This recognition from NACo is proof of what I've known for a long time: Maricopa County is one of the best-run, most efficient, and most innovative governments in the United States. As our County Manager Jen Pokorski has said: “Working in Maricopa County government means a chance to make a difference every day.”
Ocotillo Bridge Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
The Ocotillo Bridge groundbreaking represents a significant milestone for the town of Gilbert, particularly near its border with Queen Creek. This bridge, long needed and meticulously planned, will serve as a crucial asset for both communities. Personally, this project holds a special significance as it embodies my commitment to fostering connectivity between our communities. The Ocotillo Bridge will not only facilitate easier connections between our communities but also markedly enhance public safety response for numerous residents.

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation Receives Grand from the US Department of Transportation
The U.S Department of Transportation has awarded $19.6 million in grants to Arizona through the Saving Lives with Connectivity Accelerating V2X Development Program. The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will use these funds for the Connection Vehicle Acceleration Zone Program, which aims to advance connected and interoperable vehicle technologies. MCDOT plans to install 750 physical and virtual roadside units and connect them to approximately 400 vehicles onboard units, focusing on transit emergency, and freight fleets in Phoenix, Tolleson, Avondale, and Maricopa County along Route 60. This initiative aims to enhance traffic and public safety and improve road travel efficiency.
