Supervisor Galvin's Message
Welcome to this special edition of our District 2 Newsletter! The message I wish to convey is close to my heart, which is the care and-well-being of our beloved animal companions. Each year over 55,000 animals in Maricopa County rely on us, and our shared responsibility is to ensure that each animal in our community is loved and cared for. Thank you for your compassion and your continued support to animal welfare. Together, we can ensure every animal in our community has a place to call home.
Mesa: East Valley Animal Care Center
We are thrilled that the new East Valley Shelter is now open! Our previous shelter was starting to show its age, but now we’re beaming with pride to reveal our new state-of-the-art facility spanning a whopping 84,000 square feet. Come check out this awesome facility and spend some quality time with the animals who are eagerly awaiting their forever homes.
Dog Bowls and Chilled Water Fountains at McDowell Mountain Regional Park
We are very excited to announce that the Board of Supervisors has approved funding for three new chilled water fountains and dog bowls at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in District 2! These fountains, which include pet bowls, will provide essential water sources for hikers and their dogs, which help to address and mitigate issues related to excessive heat and mountain rescues. This project supports Maricopa County’s Strategic Goals and public well-being, with an expected completion date of June 17, 2024.
Become a Volunteer
We are in need of volunteers! Whether you’re passionate about walking dogs or cuddling up with a sweet cat, there’s a role for everyone! Your community support means everything to our MCACC staff who work tirelessly to care for the well-being of our sheltered animals.
Tails Around Town
We also have a wonderful volunteer program called Tails Around Town, where shelter dogs can be taken on field trips with residents, to give them a break from shelter life.
Adopt and Save Lives
Every animal and person who walks through our shelter doors is looking for the same thing: Someone to love! Our facilities provide healing, care, and shelter for pets in need. But we can’t do it alone. Nearly 13,000 animals, mostly stray dogs, have arrived at our shelters so far this year. By adopting, you provide a deserving animal with a forever home.
Come in for a meet and greet! No appointment needed!
District 2 Community Spotlight
The numbers are in! The “Empty the Shelters” event by the Bissell Pet Foundation was a huge success! There was a total of 392 adoptions between May 1st and May 15th. A huge thank you to Cathy Bissell and the Bissell Pet Foundation for your generosity in waiving fees for dogs so they could find their forever home!
