TODAY'S KEY MESSAGE
Board of Supervisors Cuts Property Tax Rate for Fourth Year in a Row
|
|
|
Today, the Board of Supervisors approved the FY 2025 County budget, reducing the property tax rate for the fourth consecutive year and trimming overall spending by 11%. This is the fourth year the Board has cut the property tax rate, bringing it to 1.16, or $116 on a $100,000 home.
The budget focuses on investments that keep our community safe, with nearly half of the budget dedicated to public safety. This spending includes services like law enforcement, jails, courts, and criminal prosecution.
Maricopa County has been recognized as one of the best in the nation at providing workforce development opportunities to our community. This budget invests nearly $25 million more toward that effort.
We're also funding projects that will serve residents for many years to come, like a new West Valley animal shelter, a new Public Health building, parks and library improvements, and more.
This budget aims to provide great value for residents- making county government more efficient and accessible to community members and investing in programs and projects that improve quality of life.

Lake and Hiking Safety
With Memorial Day Weekend a week away, Maricopa County is reminding the public to keep safety top of mind while enjoying outdoor activities like swimming, boating, and hiking.
As you're making plans for Memorial Day Weekend, please remember these key safety tips:
On the lake:
- Avoid swimming alone when possible.
- Never leave young kids unattended near water.
- Stay attentive and avoid distractions while supervising.
- If a child goes missing, always check the water first.
- Wear a life jacket, even if you’re an experienced swimmer.
- Protect yourself from the sun with sunblock, sunglasses, and a hat.
- Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and heat exhaustion.
On the trail:
- Research trails ahead of time.
- Avoid hiking alone when possible.
- Hydrate before and throughout your hike.
- Wear appropriate footwear, clothing, eye protection, and sunscreen.
- Bring plenty of water, snacks, a cell phone, and a portable cell phone charger.
- Tell someone where you will be hiking in case you lose service.
- Assess whether it may be too hot to bring your canine friends.
- When your water is half gone, turn around and return to the trailhead.
- Make sure to stay on the trail.
- And if you see wildlife, don’t get too close.
If you experience symptoms like a throbbing headache, a fever of over 103 degrees, or nausea and vomiting, please call 9-1-1 and take immediate action to cool down.

Happy Tails
"My daughter and I adopted our beautiful husky Kodiak almost 2 years ago from the Mesa location. He is the absolute best dog out there! He has brought so much joy to everyone he meets. We couldn’t imagine our lives without him. He even helps my daughter and I when we have seizures. Kodiak and I want each and every one of you looking to adopt, to consider his friends left behind instead of buying from a breeder. There are so many amazing animals just waiting to love you!
