New East Valley Shelter Officially Open!
Dozens of local leaders, animal welfare advocates, and other VIPs kicked off a days-long celebration of Maricopa County Animal Care and Control’s (MCACC) new facility in Mesa.
The 84,000 square-foot East Valley Animal Care Center is now officially open to the Public so go adopt your next furry friend! The facility features 346 kennels and 21 play yards, and has a large, angled layout that prevents overstimulation, keeps dogs relaxed, and lowers noise levels. The campus has a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic, and a separate clinic isolation area to proactively stop the spread of disease.
After the official, scissors-and-tape version with elected leaders, a shelter dog named Palm (also our Pet of the Week) took his turn, biting through a link of hotdogs to mark the moment.
Maricopa County residents have already been stopping by the New East Valley Shelter and adopting dogs. Below is the first dog adopted from the shelter.
Check out the first adoption at the new East Valley Shelter in the video above.
The new East Valley Shelter is located at 1920 South Lewis, Mesa, AZ 85210.

Walk to Chase Field
Maricopa County employees participated in their annual one-mile walk to Chase Field last Thursday. The event is a way to encourage employees to keep active and healthy. Walking to work or taking alternative modes of transportation is also a great way to improve air quality. County leaders participated as well. District 3 Supervisor Bill Gates even dressed up in a bee keeper suit in honor of the man who helped clear out the bees at Chase Field recently so the Diamondbacks could continue playing the Dodgers.
Look Before You Lock
Make sure to #LookBeforeYouLock and never leave you child or pet in a car unattended. Cars can heat up quickly so please check your backseat to prevent vehicular heat stroke. Let’s all work together to make this Summer safe for everyone!

Happy Tails
"In January we saw a cute little puppy online and rushed down to meet him. His name has changed from Gizmo to Wrangler, and he begins puppy training classes soon. He gained a dog brother and two cat siblings when he came home, and he loves them all. He fits into our pack perfectly, bringing the appropriate amount of chaos. He enjoys rides in the Jeep and playing fetch. He is our second adopted dog from West and we are thrilled to have him."
