County Departments Keep People Safe & Healthy During NCAA Tournament!

It may be April, but March Madness is in town. Our County departments have been working hard for weeks in preparation for the college hoops tournament at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.
- Our Environmental Services Department has been providing trainings for food vendors
- Department of Public Health has been monitoring illnesses and hospital wait times to keep attendees healthy.
- Our Emergency Management Department has partnered with local law enforcement to monitor potential threats before, during, and after the tournament to keep attendees safe.

We weren't in the path of totality, but the solar eclipse was visible here in Phoenix just after 10 this morning. Did you catch a glimpse? The Board of Supervisors took a quick break from county business to check it out (with protective eyewear, of course). They were joined by the Recorder and Assessor.

Valle del Sol Launches Naloxone Vending Machine
In an effort to fight the opioid crisis, Valle del Sol just unveiled a Narcan vending machine at their Phoenix location, offering free access to Naloxone. Maricopa County helped fund the effort.

Maricopa County Teams Up with El Mirage to Buy New Fire Engine
On April 3rd, the City of El Mirage held a traditional push-in ceremony to place their newest fire engine into service. Our Human Services Department was there to celebrate as they helped purchase the new vehicle for the El Mirage Fire Department to help improve safety in their community.

Chairman Recognized for Empowering Women in Transportation
Chairman Jack Sellers has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 WTS Honorable Ray LaHood or “Man of the Year” Award, acknowledging his dedication to the global advancement of women in transportation.
“I am very honored to have even been considered for this award,” said Chairman Sellers, who represents District 1. “I have made infrastructure and transportation a cornerstone of my career and this work has led me to engage with countless inspirational women who are some of the best and brightest in the transportation field.”

 Our Planning and Development Department is looking for a Plans Examiner Manager!
In this role, you will manage, coordinate, and direct the County's Building and Zoning Plans Review Division. This division is comprised of plan review staff including some with varying qualifications from ICC-certified plans examiners to registered design professionals. Plan review ensures compliance with County building codes regulating building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical construction codes as well as with the County zoning and related ordinances.
