Mesa: East Valley Animal Shelter
The new East Valley Shelter is coming soon! It is slated to open in early May. It will be located at Baseline Rd. and Lewis Dr. in Mesa. The new shelter will be about 84,000 square feet. It features improved kennel layouts and new play yards to make shelter life better for dogs while they wait for their forever home. It will be a facility that is welcoming and pleasant for all who visit. This is a huge improvement for animal welfare and adoption experiences for residents in the East Valley and beyond. Please watch this video to learn more about the East Valley Shelter.
Tour of East Valley Animal Shelter
I recently had the privilege of going on a tour of the East Valley Animal Shelter which is still undergoing construction. I was deeply moved by the visible results of all the hard work put into the establishment. It was evident that every detail was thoughtfully considered to provide the best possible environment for the animals' recovery and well-being.
Heat Relief Centers with Dog Shoes and Water Bowls
I am very proud to lead the Board’s commitment to District 2’s Community Solutions Funding to provide new dog shoes and water bowls to heat relief centers across Maricopa County. This program will help keep hundreds of dogs healthy and safe throughout the upcoming hot summer months. These supplies will be a tremendous help for people trying to keep their dogs hydrated and protected from paw burns.
After all, dogs are members of the family too!

Tails Around Town
Maricopa County Animal Care & Control is excited to announce the launch of “Tails Around Town,” a program allowing the community to take shelter dogs on field trips to decompress from the noise and overstimulation of the shelter. Whether it’s a road trip for a pup cup, a lazy day at home, or a hike on one of Arizona’s beautiful trails, this program is a great way to show our shelter dogs some love. Maybe they will even find their forever home while they’re out and about.

Pup Art Contest
CALLING ALL 3RD-6TH GRADERS! To celebrate the upcoming Grand Opening of the new East Valley Animal Shelter, Maricopa County Animal Care & Control is inviting students to submit their original artwork for the 2024 Poster Contest, “A Dog Is A Kid’s Best Friend.” Winning entries will be displayed at the new shelter and receive exclusive prizes.
Adopt and Save Lives
Ready for a new BFF? Adoption fees for dogs 6 months and older will be waived April 3-7 at both of our shelter locations. All adoptions include spay/neuter, microchip, and age-appropriate vaccinations. Together, we can save lives.
Special Thanks to Maricopa County Animal Care Staff!
I am proud of the Animal Care and Control staff for their constant adaptability, resilience and strong work ethic. Their dedication to ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of our community's animals is commendable. Thank you for all that you do!
