2024 Presidential Preference Election
On Tuesday, March 19, Maricopa County administered the Presidential Preference Election. Over 600,000 Republicans and Democrats from across Maricopa County voted (609,826 to be exact!). I spent election day down at the Maricopa County Tabulation and Elections Center and I was pleased to receive reports from voters at vote centers across the Valley about how smooth the election day process was. Please keep in mind the following dates for the remaining 2024 Elections:
- July 30th - Primary Election Day
- November 5th - Election Day

March County Coffee
This month District 3 held the first 2024 County Coffee Event at the new Barrio Brewery located in the Deer Valley Airport. We were pleased to welcome Sheriff Skinner as our special guest, who gave an overview of his goals at the Sheriff’s Office and how he looks forward to working together to ensure a safe and secure election year. We were also fortunate to have surprise appearances from Phoenix City Councilwoman Ann O’Brien as well as former LD18 legislator Barry Wong. Thank you to the many neighbors who came out to join us! If you missed out, we are in the process of planning our next County Coffee which we plan to hold in May. Please be on the lookout for more details.

North Valley Library Update
As mentioned in our last newsletter, Maricopa County recently closed on a 27,188 square foot building which will soon serve as the new North Valley Regional Library. We are so excited to announce that thanks to Supervisor Gates’ leadership, on March 28 the Board approved a $4M allocation for improvements to the building which will make this into a first-class library! If interested in learning more about the renovations, please attend our next County Coffee, during which we plan to have Maricopa County Librarian Jeremy Reeder to discuss the plans for the building as well as renovation timelines.

The County’s new book sharing service, MAX, launched on March 25th. Operated by MCLD, the service is a book borrowing/lending partnership between 14 public library systems. With MAX, residents can borrow a book from a different library system using their current library account. A courier service will ship the book to their desired pick-up library at no cost. Animal Care & Control Updates
Staff at MCACC’s West shelter are asking partners and the public to help keep dogs out of the shelter after a dog died from a rare disease called Strep zoo. Affected kennel wings are being deep cleaned and all dogs at the shelter will receive antibiotics, meaning the public can safely continue to adopt and foster dogs. If you’ve adopted from MCACC’s West shelter since March 9 and you suspect your dog may be ill, see your regular veterinarian right away.
If you have found a stray dog, please visit the MCACC Lost & Found page for guidance on how to help find the owner without bringing them to the shelter.
