You may remember that this past December, I traveled to Fort Worth, Texas to pay off a World Series bet I made with the Tarrant County Judge Tim O'Hare. I promised to donate over 4,200 dozen eggs to the Tarrant Area Food Bank in Fort Worth. To keep the donations local and fresh, my friends and partners in the Egg Industry, Cal-Maine Foods, provided the eggs to Tarrant Area Food Bank, this enabled me to donate over 6,000 dozen eggs to the St. Mary's Food Bank right here in Phoenix this past January.
St. Mary's has been serving the community for over 55 years and I am grateful that Hickman Family Farms was able to help them feed so many families in need. Watch this video for the full back story on the bet and donations.

Maricopa County Invests $3 Million in Funding to Provide Housing for Veterans in Glendale
On Jan. 10, my colleagues and I approved $3 million in funding to invest in transitional housing tailor-made for veterans and their families that are struggling with homelessness.
This funding, part of Maricopa County’s allocation of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars, will help pay for the construction costs associated with this transitional housing development. The community will feature 50 units of non-congregate, or private, transitional housing in Glendale. Maricopa County is one of multiple funders for this project. The City of Glendale and the State of Arizona also contributed.
I’m proud to bring these additional resources to District 4, an area that is home to Luke Air Force Base and a large population of veterans. Maricopa County is a leader in helping to care for our veterans who have made countless sacrifices to protect our great nation.”
The transitional housing development will provide on-site, wrap-around services with in-depth case management focused on self-sufficiency and housing stability. Each veteran will receive custom services catered specifically to their needs related to mental and physical health, workforce connections, benefits, or substance use, as applicable.

Maricopa County, El Mirage, and Surprise Join Forces to Address Homelessness in the Northwest Valley
Back in December, my colleagues and I approved an agreement that provides $65,000 in funding for support services that will now benefit people experiencing homelessness in the Northwest Valley. The decision is the latest action in a broader initiative the County has undertaken in collaboration with the cities of El Mirage and Surprise to address homelessness.
By working together with El Mirage and Surprise, we are strategically pooling resources to create a tangible impact. Our collective goal is to ensure that those in need have access to vital services and pathways to stability.
Part of this regional collaboration is Maricopa County’s established street outreach program known as Hand in Hand. The program searches for and makes contact with people experiencing homelessness in designated county areas. Trained outreach staff work with these individuals to get them connected to homeless services coordinators for each city.
The coordinators serve as a conduit to help people in need seamlessly access city services and county resources including employment and housing options as well as community programs to address mental health and substance use.
Under the agreement, the City of El Mirage is providing $15,000 to Maricopa County and the City of Surprise is providing $50,000 to fund this work.
Since March 2023, Maricopa County has invested more than $5.2 million in the West Valley for services designed to assist individuals and families as they make a plan to exit homelessness. Key investments include:
