Supervisor's Message
Happy New Year!
2024 is shaping up to be another great year in District 3. In addition to ensuring the County administers three safe, secure and transparent elections this year, District 3 is taking the lead on other impactful projects, including adding a new library facility to the North Valley (Anthem/New River area) and overseeing expansion of broadband and internet connectivity around the County. I am pleased that we will holding a county coffee soon as well (more information on that below and coming soon!). I look forward to seeing you out in the District!

I am thrilled to announce that the County has acquired a building near the intersection of West Anthem Way and the I-17 freeway in Anthem which will serve as the new library for our residents in the North Valley. I will share more information (regarding expected opening date, etc.) as soon as I have it. In the meantime, for more information on the County’s Library District click here.

Passing of the Gavel
On January 3rd, Jack Sellers from District 1 was sworn in as the Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors for 2024. This is Chairman Sellers’ second time as Chairman and I am confident he will do an exceptional job leading this Board in 2024. I also want to thank former Chairman Clint Hickman for his service as Chairman in 2023.
During Chairman Sellers’ acceptance speech, he outlined his priorities for 2024. The top of his list, like the top of mine, included administering three safe, secure and transparent elections in 2024. I was honored that during the speech Chairman Sellers asked me to serve a significant role in elections this year on behalf of the Board.

Farewell Sheriff Penzone
Sheriff Paul Penzone resigned on January 12th to pursue other endeavors. I wanted to take a moment to thank Sheriff Penzone for his courageous work and dedication to Maricopa County over the last seven years. His office’s support during the 2020 and 2022 election cycles ensured that the County’s elections workers felt safe. He will be missed but we wish him well on his new journey. Thank you Sheriff Penzone.

Maricopa County Stormwater Pollution Poster Contest
“We’re Here to Keep Our Water Clear!”
In Maricopa County, stormwater runoff is carried by curbs and gutters into storm drains. Storm drains are separate from the sanitary sewer and DO NOT lead to a treatment plant. Stormwater runoff and any pollutants that are picked up are discharged into our washes, rivers, and lakes without being treated.
To help spread awareness about stormwater pollution, the Maricopa County Environmental Services Stormwater Quality Program is sponsoring the 14th Annual Stormwater poster contest. This year’s theme is “We’re Here to Keep Our Water Clear!”
The 14th Annual Stormwater poster contest is open to any student in 3rd-6th grade in Maricopa County. Students and teachers are encouraged to visit our website for ideas: https://www.maricopa.gov/2345/Poster-Contest
From poll workers to truck drivers, Maricopa County Elections is hiring paid temporary workers to support elections in Maricopa County. While our hiring needs change depending on the size of the election, we would welcome Maricopa County voters to join us and work elections! If you are interested, please click the link for more information.

This past weekend, I attended the celebration of Valley Metro’s Northwest Extension Phase II Opening. The 1.6-mile extension expands light rail service farther into northwest Phoenix running west from 19th and Dunlap Avenues, going north on 25th Avenue, then west on Mountain View Road and crossing the I-17 freeway to the Metrocenter area. I am thrilled that this expansion will now give even more District 3 residents access to inexpensive and convenient transportation. |
Please be on the lookout for our next newsletter which will contain the details of our county coffee that we are aiming to take place in early March. More information to follow.

Animal Care & Control Updates
If you lost your pet over the holidays, they could be at a Maricopa County shelter. At the West shelter you can search for your pet in person, fill out a Lost Pet Report, use this interactive lost pet map, or call the lost and found team at 602-372-4598. Remember to also post on social media and look on pages like Petco Love Lost or NextDoor. If you have found a lost pet, please take the animal to a nearby vet clinic to have it scanned for a microchip. You can also schedule an appointment bring the dog to the County’s West Shelter.
