Rio Verde Foothills & Scottsdale: Long-term Water Solution at Last
Last week, the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) approved EPCOR’s application to construct a standpipe for water service to the Rio Verde Foothills (RVF) community. This is the long-term solution that I developed since becoming a Maricopa County Supervisor. I am happy that the good folks in RVF will have a long-term, reliable water source so that they may continue to live with water security and certainty in their community. And I am proud to have helped mediate the dispute between Scottsdale and the RVF, this is a win-win for both communities.
This has been an epic journey with many moving parts, and I fulfilled my promise to do my part to secure the community’s long-term water future. I convinced EPCOR to apply to be the long-term water provider. The ACC opened a docket at my request to facilitate that application. Happily, the ACC rightfully concluded that standpipe service to RVF is reasonable and in the public interest. I want to thank the Commission for their diligence and hard work on this issue. I appreciate EPCOR’s efforts to step-up in their willingness to serve the community.
Finally, I was incredibly impressed with the grit and determination of the residents of RVF who worked tirelessly despite the unnecessary antics by Scottsdale's mayor. Those RVF residents are incredible human beings, and they personify the spirit of the RVF community.
Special Guest: Scottsdale Rabbi Andy Green & Supervisor Galvin's Comments
Rabbi Andy Green was my guest at last month's Board of Supervisors meeting, where he opened the session with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Serving as the Rabbi for Congregation Or Tzion in Scottsdale, he led a prayer that fervently sought peace and healing for all the innocent individuals experiencing suffering in Israel and Gaza. My heart goes out to the Jewish members of our community, many of whom have families and friends enduring hardships in Israel or facing threats here at home. Please watch his prayer and my comments below.
Public Safety: Focus on Fentanyl
Maricopa County unveiled a new video series and website designed to help residents understand the growing impact of fentanyl use and prevent tragedies in their communities.
Fentanyl is now the deadliest drug in Arizona. Just a few grains of fentanyl are enough to kill an adult male. And it's not always easy to spot—fentanyl is often mixed into other illicit or prescription drugs, so users don't know what they've taken until it's too late.
Maricopa County departments and elected offices are united in the fight against fentanyl, but we need your help to raise awareness and change behavior.
I am proud to work with County Attorney Rachel Mitchell to fight this evil scourge.

Mesa: Supervisor Galvin Attends the AZ National Guard Muster
I had the honor of attending the 2023 Muster of the Arizona State National Guard at Sloan Park in Mesa. This impressive event brought out over 3,500 members of the Arizona National Guard and many community members, showcasing the unity and strength of our service men and women. We also honored the 838 members of the Arizona National Guard who are currently serving overseas. Please join me in thanking these vital members of our community and keeping them and their families in your prayers during this holiday season.
Tempe: Supervisor Galvin Attends Rally at ASU in Support of Hostages Held by Hamas

I attended a rally held at Arizona State University in support of the hostages kidnapped by the terrorist organization Hamas. I was honored to join about 100 people who held a moment of silence and then marched together through the ASU campus. Now more than ever, it is crucial that we lock arms in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters and fight back against hate in every form. I am proud to always support our Jewish Community in District 2 and in Maricopa County. |
Statement from Supervisor Thomas Galvin on the Passing of Sandra Day O'Connor
Sandra Day O’Connor and Arizona are synonymous. They are intertwined by the manifestation of independence, grit, determination, and just plain hard work. No doubt, Sandra Day O’Connor was a trailblazer in many respects: first woman to serve on the United States Supreme Court, first female majority leader of the Arizona State Senate. What I admired most about Justice O’Connor, however, was her follow-through and her make-it-happen attitude. She simply rolled up her sleeves and got to work, and got the job done, no matter the obstacles or adversity. Sandra Day O’Connor was an exemplary public servant whose Arizona roots run deep and true. She will be missed.
