Our Priorities for 2024
We want Maricopa County to be a great place to live, raise a family, start a business, and most importantly, we want it to be safe for all. Hear from Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell about our office's priorities this upcoming year. We look forward to another year of serving our communities and keeping families safe!
Focusing on Safety this New Year
Our Mission: An important part of MCAO's mission is not only holding criminals accountable, but also working with our communities to prevent them from becoming victims of crime.
What We Can Do For You: We do this through a variety of community programs, all of which are available free of cost and open to anyone in Maricopa County. These include our Community Education presentations, Citizens Academy, Shred-A-Thons and Prescription Drug Take Backs, Safety Fairs, Fentanyl Forums, and more. Click the link below to learn more about these programs.
Updates on Organized Retail Theft
Safe Shopping Campaign: Last year, County Attorney Mitchell launched a Safe Shopping campaign aimed at raising awareness of organized retail crime and encouraging businesses to report it when they see it.
Prosecution at Work: Since then, our office has received over 325 organized retail crime submittals, ensuring that those who come to Maricopa County to commit this crime are held accountable.
Together, we can tackle this growing threat to the safety and economic prosperity of Maricopa County.
2024 Citizens Academy
Brace yourselves, Maricopa County residents: The moment you've been waiting for is finally here – the grand return of our Citizens Academy!
What is the Citizens Academy? It's a free, one-day program designed to educate members of the public about the inner workings of the Maricopa County Attorney's Office and the important role we play in the criminal justice system.
Don't wait to register, spots fill up quick: Register today and come spend the day with us! Please note this program is open to all Maricopa County residents over the age of 18.
Save The Date: Spring Fentanyl Forums

A Top Priority: Since taking office, County Attorney Rachel Mitchell has made combatting the fentanyl crisis a top priority for MCAO.
Beyond the Courtroom: In addition to the efforts of our prosecutors, our team has organized several community forums throughout the valley to help families stay informed.

Don't Miss Out: Gilbert Shred-A-Thon
Did You Know: Arizona ranked 17th in the nation for identity theft last year? Even more so, identity theft was the most common type of fraud to occur in the state with 19,000 reports submitted to the Federal Trade Commission.
Identity theft can happen to anyone, but you can reduce the risk by practicing simple habits to secure your personal and financial information.
Shred It Away: Shredding receipts, credit card offers, loan/credit card applications, insurance forms, bank statements, and other documents you no longer need greatly reduces your risk. So, gather your documents and meet us at our next Shred-A-Thon in Gilbert!
