With summer just around the corner, it's time for a refresher on safe recreation!
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office was called to 105 rescues on county lakes and trails last year. Unfortunately, 11 people drowned in Maricopa County lakes last year.
To try to prevent a repeat this year, Maricopa County partners held a press conference before the Memorial Day Weekend to share safety information with residents. See the highlights in the video above.

Maricopa County Invests $6 Million to Help Build Tarver Terrace
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has approved $6 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding for the construction of a new affordable housing community in Phoenix. The development, known as Bret Tarver Terrace, will be located at 3101 W. McDowell Rd. The community is named after fallen Phoenix firefighter Bret Tarver who tragically perished on duty while fighting a fire at a shopping center in 2001.
The new community will have a total of 96 units, including 32 one-bedroom units, 32 two-bedroom units, and 32 three-bedroom units. UMOM Housing, a local non-profit organization, will develop the project.

MCSO Saves Hiking Victim
A few weeks ago, a call came in after a victim hiked Four Peaks Mountain and sustained multiple injuries. Deputy Cesolini was hoisted down close to 300 ft. to extract the hiker. He treated the patient by splinting the leg, placing in spinal motion restrictions, wrapping bandages, providing high flow oxygen, and packing the patient in an extraction bag. “We adopted Kona, formerly Allie in September of 2022. Since then, she has grown so much, from a 35lbs puppy to a 70lbs German Shepherd, Husky pit mix! She is living her best life, playing with her best friends and her brother. We couldn’t have found a better fit for our family, especially for her brother too. They were bonded since the day we brought her home. Thank you for taking her in and allowing us to add her to our family!”
