On 3/23/2012 12:00:00 PM: How dangerous are scorpions? How can we protect ourselves from them? How do they survive and thrive in our desert? If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about scorpions, then this one-hour presentation is for you! Bring your sandwich to the “Brown-Bag It” series inside our Nature Center as Ranger B shares some amazing facts about these desert dwellers. Location: Nature Center.

On 3/23/2012 2:00:00 PM: Come find out what is in the desert and experience a desert hike. Meet the Ranger at the South Pipeline Canyon Trailhead. Follow the "Hike" signs to the trailhead from the main contact station entry gate. This hike is moderate with some scenic views. Bathrooms and water at trailhead and at the turn around.

Talk will focus on rattlesnake species in the U.S. and in Arizona. Captive rattlesnake feeding afterward to those who wish to observe.

On 3/23/2012 4:00:00 PM: Does your dog have behavioral issues that keep you from doing things you only wish you could do? Well, THERE'S HOPE! Dog Whisperers and Co-Authors of "There's Hope!"© Mark German and Janice Wolfe, and student Sarah Moesbergen (http://americascanineacademy.com/about) will be joining Ranger Mark as he takes his dogs for a walk on the Baseline Trail to watch the city light up as the sun sets. You and your dog (s) are invited to join them. If you want to join in, but are worried that your dog is going to drag you or "make a scene", come anyway! Before the walk, the Dog Whisperers will be giving away free leashes and teaching dogs to walk properly. They will teach YOU how to have the well-behaved dog you wanted, but might not have!. Take sturdy shoes, flashlights, and water for you and your pets. Dogs must be leashed at all times. The Dog Whisperers will teach YOU and your dog at the Turf Picnic Area starting at 4 p.m. Ranger Mark will begin his walk at the Gila Trailhead at 6 p.m. Don’t forget that you will be required to clean up after your pet, so come prepared. (this hike is approximately 1.75 miles)
