TODAY'S KEY MESSAGE
TABULATION FOR NOVEMBER GENERAL ELECTION IS UNDERWAY!
|
|
|
The Maricopa County Elections Department began counting early ballots today, with 168,000 ballots ready for tabulation. All early and provisional ballots will be counted at the Elections Department, while Election Day ballots are counted on tabulators at Vote Centers. State law allows the tabulation of early ballots prior to Election Day. Using federally and state certified tabulation equipment, Maricopa County estimates 98 percent of ballots will be reported by November 11.

HOW WE ENSURE EACH VOTER ONLY CASTS ONE BALLOT
To have a vote, you must be a registered voter. To be a registered voter, we have to do an identity check. We do that identity check with the motor vehicle division or with the Social Security Administration. To be able to be an early voter, we must verify your location. We confirm that with our G.I.S. team and then we send out a voter registration card. If that voter registration card comes back as undeliverable, we cannot put you on the voter registration roll.
“We don’t just take loose ballots. Those ballots have to come back in that green envelope and that green envelope has to be signed and it has to have a bar code,” said Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer. “What does that bar code link to? It links to a voter registration profile who has registered, shown identity and who has been confirmed on the back end”
Look at your voter registration profile here.
STATEMENT ON DROP BOX WATCHERS & VOTER INTIMIDATION
On Friday evening two armed individuals dressed in tactical gear were onsite at a ballot drop box in Mesa. At the request of the County, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office responded. The individuals left the drop box area. You can read the joint statement from Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Gates and Recorder Stephen Richer here.
