TODAY'S KEY MESSAGE
ABOVE AVERAGE RAINFALL!
|
|
|
In the desert, we’ll take all the rain we can get. And in Monsoon 2022, we’ve seen above average rainfall across the County except in the East Valley where rainfall totals have been about average. Below are some tips from our Flood Control District to keep in mind before the next storm.
Stay Out of Flooded Areas
Even though Maricopa County is in a desert, flooding is a very real threat. The intense rains of the monsoon bring flash flooding to usually dry washes.
Remember: six inches of water can knock you off your feet, an two feet of water can carry your car away.
Also: many of the parks and recreation areas you enjoy are also basins or channels, so don't play in them during and after storms.
5 Things to Do if Your Property Floods
- Call your insurance company.
- Avoid additional risk.
- Take pictures.
- Protect your health.
- Remove the water.

SPECIAL PROSECUTOR TO FIGHT ANIMAL CRUELTY
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell has hired a prosecutor and specialized detective to work on the successful prosecution of animal cruelty cases. Prosecutor Casey Mundell, who was recently appointed as a municipal judge and will be leaving the office soon, has focused on these cases for years and made Maricopa County a national model for prosecuting crimes against animals.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, animal cruelty crimes can serve as a precursor to more violent crimes and other types of offenses such as domestic violence, assault, and elder abuse. Some studies have referred to animal cruelty as a gateway crime.
