About Us

Maricopa County Environmental Services provides essential, regional environmental services seeking to prevent and remove environmental health risks. The Department’s Environmental Health Specialists and Field Technicians are in the community every day making sure that among other things, food in all the eating and drinking establishments in the County is protected from contamination, that water supplies throughout the County are safe to drink, and that vector borne health illnesses and risks are minimized. It is our belief that with continued support, future generations will reap the benefits of today’s actions.

REMINDER: COVID-19 Emergency Declarations Ended in Maricopa County

What Does This Mean to Your Business?

Food Inspection

On March 30, 2022, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and the Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, Bill Gates, ended COVID-19 Emergency Declarations for the state and county, respectively.

What that means for Maricopa County Environmental Services Department’s permit holders is that many of the procedures found in our COVID-19 modified inspection protocol will be rescinded. We will return to pre-pandemic procedures for routine inspections, re-inspections, and complaint responses. Specifically, we will no longer accept verbal acknowledgement of inspection rights. Signatures will be required on inspection rights logs. In addition, inspections at establishments that serve highly susceptible populations will be unannounced and in-person, as they were prior to the pandemic. Virtual inspection options will be limited and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Two department office locations are currently open for in-person submittal of plans, applications, and/or payments. However, we strongly encourage use of our website for online submittals, payment of permit fees, and other useful resources.  Information regarding office locations/hours and all of our online services is available on our website.
