Head Start Teachers Awarded $70,000 School Supply Shopping Spree
Every year, the county’s Early Education Division provides teachers with classroom supplies and equipment to ensure the children they teach have a high-quality early education experience. This year, 120 Head Start educators get to take part in a Red-Carpet Shopping Spree Event at Lakeshore Learning in Ahwatukee. Each classroom will get $1,000 that teachers can use to shop for classroom supplies to tailor their classrooms to enhance education. This Red-Carpet Event was made possible with American Rescue Plan Funds.
“It definitely empowers teachers with the resources needed to provide elevated instruction.” said Eve Del Real, Assistant Director for Maricopa County Early Education. "This is a wellness activity that recognizes the critical role teachers play in a children’s learning”
Head Start serves 1,245 children when at full enrollment throughout the East and West Valley.

Work Zone Awareness
As part of Work Zone Awareness Week, our transportation crews reminded people that safety starts with them. Work zone traffic fatalities have increased in recent months, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. We all have a role to play in reversing that trend. Take care of the road crews who take care of our roads by slowing down and exercising caution in work zones. It could save lives!
