Funding the Food Need
Food insecurity has gotten worse for families across the Valley during the pandemic. In response, the Board of Supervisors has allotted $3 million dollars in American Rescue Plan Act Funds to the Arizona Food Bank Network. The Network will then distribute that money to smaller food banks in the form of grants. See the difference the money is making in the video below.

COVID-19 Data Update
Questions About Omicron Variant?
This weekend, news came out about a new variant detected, named Omicron. It has been found in multiple countries on multiple continents but not yet here in the U.S. So far, there are a lot of questions that are being researched (such as how infectious it is, if it causes more serious illness, and how well vaccines hold up against it). At this point, not much is known for certain. Maricopa County Public Health is following the science and working with CDC and the Arizona Department of Health Services to perform enhanced surveillance to identify the strain if it appears in Arizona. We will continue to update the community as more becomes known about this new variant.
Until more is known, continue doing what we know works to reduce spread—stay home if you’re sick; avoid large crowds; wear a mask in indoor settings; get vaccinated and boosted.

PETS AND PLACES
Pet of the Week
 Meet Russell!
Talk about picture perfect! Russell is a seven-year-old senior pup who's hoping to get adopted in time to celebrate the holidays with a family of his very own. He's already been house trained and knows some basic obedience. He takes his treats gently and walks nicely on a leash. Russell enjoys car rides, going on adventures outside, and sharing snacks with his friends. This sweet boy really adores his familiar human friends and will love every moment he can spend with you. His adoption fee is covered by Bissell Pet Foundation.
