CHECK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YOURSELF: WEST NILE EDITION
It only takes one bite for a mosquito to spread West Nile virus to a person.
Here are five things you can do to prevent the likelihood of an infected mosquito biting you:
- Remove standing water from your home
- Wear insect repellent
- Avoid being outside in the early morning and early evening hours when mosquitoes are most active
- Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants and socks when outdoors during these active times
- Keep mosquitoes out of the house by making certain that door and window screens fit tightly and do not have holes.

CHECK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YOURSELF: FLU EDITION
With COVID-19 and the flu circulating at the same time, getting a flu shot will provide you with added protection against viral illness.
Here’s what you should know:
- Flu shots are safe and recommended for everyone six months of age and older
- Getting a flu vaccine is especially important for people at higher risk of hospitalization from the flu. These include:
- Young children
- Older adults
- People with medical conditions
- Getting the flu shot means you have less of a chance of giving it to someone who is at high risk or being hospitalized by it. This will lessen the strain on our healthcare system which is currently overwhelmed by COVID-19 patients.
- Children six months and older can receive free flu shots at one of Maricopa County’s Immunization Clinics.
While the flu shot will protect you against the flu, flu and COVID-19 are caused by different viruses. To get maximum protection, get your flu shot AND your COVID-19 vaccine. You can even get them on the same day!

He's around seven years old and can be shy when you first meet, but if you have the patience to win him over, you'll be friends for life.
