How Is The Delta Variant Different from Other COVID-19?
The Delta variant is spread more easily from person-to-person — it’s about twice as contagious as earlier strains of the virus and as contagious as chickenpox — which is why it is important that everyone 12 years and older get fully vaccinated. There is also some evidence that the illness caused by the Delta variant may be more severe than the illness caused by other COVID-19 strains, particularly in younger people and in people without underlying medical conditions, but there is still a lot to learn about this variant.

How Many People Are Vaccinated In My Area?
Public Health works diligently to ensure people from all over Maricopa County have access to the COVID-19 vaccine. We want to meet people where they are at in our community, and to ensure those who, historically, have a harder time getting health care can find a COVID-19 shot that is:
- Available in convenient locations and times
- Provided in a safe, trusted environment
- Easy to sign up for
- Culturally relevant with information in many languages
- Accessible for people with a variety of functional needs
As part of that effort to ensure vaccine availability for all, we track vaccination rates by ZIP code and city to see if any areas are underserved. Many of our vaccination events and outreach efforts target these areas. You can find out what percentage of the population in your area has been vaccinated for COVID-19 by searching this map.

PETS AND PLACES
Pet of the Week
Diesel
How handsome is our pal Diesel? Four-year-old Diesel is one of those dogs with a strong and tough appearance on the outside, and a squishy lovable personality on the inside - a fun guy who's the perfect combination of big blocky-head and wiggly backside! He enjoys going for walks, showing off his "sit" and "shake paw" for treats, and - most of all - just spending time with people! He adores getting attention and will lean in to make sure he's soaking up as much of it as possible (especially if it involves getting back scratches)!
