Johnson And Johnson Vaccine Update
The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices met today to discuss the pause of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine due to six reported U.S. cases of an extremely rare type of blood clot in individuals after receiving the J&J vaccine. After today’s review of initial findings, the committee decided to continue the pause and will reconvene within a week to ten days to evaluate more data that is expected to become available.
The pause was issued so health care providers could become aware of the problem and plan for appropriate management of the rare type of clot. It is important for the public to know that this rare blood clot has not been reported following receipt of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.

Hotline for Spanish Speakers
Spanish-speaking members of the community now have a new resource available to help book vaccine appointments as the result of a partnership with the Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) and Arizona’s 2-1-1 hotline. MCDPH contracted with 2-1-1 to set up a call center with dozens of staff members dedicated to the Promotores program. In its first ten days of operation and without advertisement, the program received 1,160 calls and booked 648 appointments. Over half of callers requested assistance with setting up appointments. The rest of the callers connected to operators for vaccine information and assistance with locating available vaccine in their area.

Cases And Prevention
Older adults (65+) make up a smaller percentage of new cases of COVID-19. This means vaccination efforts are having a positive impact on that group. That said, the majority of our community is still not vaccinated. It’s important for everyone—especially those who have not been vaccinated—to keep doing what works to reduce the risk of getting or spreading COVID-19.
