Dear friends,
It has been another busy week at Maricopa County as our Elections Department continues to process and count ballots from Tuesday’s election. I want to thank our Co-Directors of Elections, Scott Jarrett and Rey Valenzuela, and their team, for their efforts to administer fair, free and efficient elections in Maricopa County. To continue following results visit Maricopa.vote.
A quick reminder that we must remain vigilant as COVID-19 numbers continue to rise. Masks, hand washing, and social distancing can help us all stay safe.
As always, stay safe!
Bill

Businesses saved. Nonprofits supported. Individuals and families protected from eviction. This is the early legacy of Maricopa County CARES Act spending. At the direction of the Board of Supervisors, more than $230 million in federal dollars had been spent as of mid-September to address the public health emergency and the financial fallout, with assistance programs for businesses, nonprofits, social service agencies, food banks, and schools. The county is also providing rent and utility assistance to individuals and families who are struggling to pay their bills, as well as support for those experiencing homelessness.

At a time when technology is more important than ever to student learning, Maricopa County is acting to make sure more schools have strong internet connections. Using CARES Act funds, Maricopa County purchased 29,790 hotspots for 32 school districts in Maricopa County and also paid for the first year of service. This will give school districts the flexibility to deliver lessons online to all students if virtual learning is the only option.

Individuals and families impacted financially by COVID-19 can apply for rental or utility assistance in three easy steps:
- Check eligibility. For both programs, monthly income must be at or below 300% of the federal poverty level which is $6,550 for a family of four.
- Gather required documentation. For both programs, documentation is limited to speed along the process and includes a photo ID, proof of financial hardship due to COVID-19, and either a lease agreement or utility bill, depending on what you’re applying for.
- Apply for assistance. You can submit applications online or through your local Community Action Program (CAP) office.
