Dear Friends,
This election season continues to show historic turnout numbers as early voting is wrapping up and Election Day is around the corner. As of this morning, 1,374,171 ballots have been returned for early ballot processing. I commend all who have participated in the election so far and encourage those who haven't returned their ballots or voted in person to take a look at the resources below or go to Maricopa.vote to make a plan.
I'd also like to share that, to date, Maricopa County has provided more than $43 million in small business grants to companies in the county and we are on track to provide more that $63 million in aid at the current rate of disbursement. I want to thank the Arizona Community Foundation for their partnership in ensuring that small businesses in Maricopa County have the resources necessary to endure unstable economic times. If you have a small business struggling during the pandemic, you can apply for small business relief at the Arizona Community Foundation website.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office if you have questions, concerns, or need help finding resources. You may reach us at 602-506-7562 or district3@maricopa.gov.
All my best,
Bill

Maricopa County Public Health has an updated data dashboard to better display trends and demographic information related to the spread of COVID-19.
Remember: "total number of cases" refers to all confirmed COVID-19 cases in Maricopa County since January, not to the current number of people who have the disease.
Maricopa County is making it easier for residents to find COVID-19 relief assistance with Take Care, a collection of programs designed to help keep people and businesses healthy during the pandemic.
The programs, funded by the CARES Act, include:
- Free COVID-19 Testing
- Free Flu Vaccinations
- Rental Assistance
- Utility Assistance
- Funeral Assistance
- Small Business & Nonprofit Relief
To find information and applications for all of these programs, Maricopa County residents can visit maricopa.gov/TakeCare.

In order to best protect the health and safety of staff and students at K-12 schools, Arizona Department of Health Services has defined a school “outbreak” using a low threshold. A school has an outbreak if:
- there are two or more PCR-positive cases of COVID-19 among students or staff within a 14-day period
- AND those cases could have reasonably come into contact with each other in school
- AND those cases do not come from the same household
An outbreak does not mean Public Health will recommend that a school closes, or even that an entire class should be quarantined. It simply means that schools are required by Arizona Department of Health Services to notify parents/guardians, students, staff, and their local health department that the outbreak has occurred. Public Health will provide guidance to the school about the appropriate next steps.

Based on available evidence, most children are at lower risk for severe illness from COVID-19 than adults. However, even if they are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, children can still transmit the virus to people who are at higher risk for more severe symptoms that may require hospitalization. That’s why it’s important to teach kids, even preschool-age, how to properly fight germs with basics like hand-washing and covering coughs and sneezes. |

A lot of people think about getting a flu shot every year, but then don’t do it. In 2020, we know things are different. This fall and winter, we’ll have both the flu and COVID-19 circulating widely in our community. This is not just a health risk for individuals; it also has the potential to overwhelm our health care system. You can do your part by getting a flu shot. The shot makes it less likely you’ll get the flu (yay!). If you do get the flu, having the vaccine makes it less likely you’ll get so sick you’ll need to go to a doctor or a hospital (double yay!).
Public Health is providing free flu shots to anyone in the community, whether you have insurance or not. Find times and locations that work for you at Maricopa.gov/flu.
