Understanding the Violence Against Women Act
Less than 26 years ago, violence against women, including domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking, were not perceived as crimes in the U.S. The passage of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was the first U.S federal legislation to acknowledge domestic violence and sexual assault as federal crimes and provide support, services, and resources for victims.

MCAO Home Detention Program Holds Offenders Accountable, Saves Money and Helps Families

MCAO Prosecution Policies and Plea Procedures focus on "Treatment First" Approach
With the majority of criminal charges ending in plea agreements, county prosecutors now have new policies to guide how they handle these cases. “Lawyers are trained critical thinkers and I want to empower prosecutors to use that skill in assessing their cases,” stated County Attorney Adel.
